'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Jinky Johnno wants out!

Middlesbrough's Adam Johnson has today told the Hartlepool Mail he may have to leave Middlesbrough permanantly to get first team football.

'It is nice to hear about teams being after you and wanting to buy you but at the end of the day I am still a Boro player.

'I am coming up to 21 now and you can never rule anything out, especially with both me and Stewart Downing at the same club. At some point in our careers, we won't be able to be here together because we are rivals for the same position.

'I think at some point the manager will have to make a decision because I don't think he can keep both of us. I have got some big decisions to make. Probably not in this transfer window but maybe in the summer.

'But Gareth has said he doesn't want me to go anywhere and until someone tells me otherwise I am just going to get on with it.'

Music to the ears of Aidy Boothroyd and the Hornets faithful who were in awe of Johnson's ability during a three-month loan spell.

The popular Geordie was eventually re-called early and featured in the 'Boro first-team but has been dropped of late.

Johnson's five goals for Watford have gone a long way to cementing a place in Hornet's hearts and who knows, would Aidy be prepared to splash the cash to bring him in?

It would certainly spell the end for Anthony McNamee who is out of contract come July anyway.

Gareth Soutgate's arm may well be twisted if Watford offer a decent fee for the England U21 cap which would enable him to bring in Alfonso Alves from Herenveen. Watford on the other hand could raise the cash by sellings talisman, Marlon King...

or even trade in King to Middlesborough in part exchange for Johnson. I'd personally rather have Jinky in yellow than King...It's an option.
