Watford's Under-18s moved top of their Youth Alliance Cup group at the weekend with a resounding 3-0 win over Barnet.

With Portsmouth not playing over the weekend, Dave Hughes' youngsters took full advantage to leapfrog Pompey.

The goals came Tom Rosenthal, Chris Dillon and the red-hot Alex Jakubiak.

Speaking to the Official Site afterwards, Hughes praised his side's ruthlessness.

"We spoke at half-time about being ruthless, and not being content. In fairness, Barnet came out and had a real go, but the third goal knocked the stuffing out of them a little bit,' admitted Hughes.

"There was a high level of application and effort in the first period, we just needed to work on our concentration levels in the final 25 minutes to keep the ball and pick our opportunities to go forward.'

Watford: Wilks; Hall, Young, Doherty; Barnum-Bobb, Westlake (Hope, 60), Dillon (Otudeko, 75), Cumberbatch (Byers, 68), Martin; Rosenthal & Jakubiak.

The result means that Group 5 looks like this:

1. Watford P3, GD+5, PTS7
2. Portsmouth P3, GD+3, PTS3
3. Barnet P4, GD-1, PTS6
4. Crawley P3, GD0, PTS3
5. Wimbledon P3, GD-7, PTS0

Last weekend the Hornets drew two all with Northampton Town's Under-18s in the South East Conference, a result which leaves the young Hornets fourth in their division.

Colchester United remain top of the division.
