Vital Forest editor Kev Finnegan helps us preview Sunday`s top-of-the-table clash with the Tricky Trees…Hopes, fears & expectations for the season?
For the first time in many years, there's genuine hope amongst supporters of a serious push for promotion this season.
The club have done some very good business over the summer in terms of strengthening the squad and they've settled well, getting off to a flying start. We're only three games into a 46 game campaign, but the early signs are very promising indeed.
The only fear as far as I'm concerned, is that we don't build on this good start and continue it. Three wins from three, top of the league at this stage: what's gone right so far?
We look to be a much more formidable team defensively than we were last year and the midfield just oozes quality. Adlene Guedioura, Andy Reid and Henri Lansbury have formed a terrific partnership in the middle of the park and have largely responsible for the excellent start we've had.You splashed £2.5m on Kelvin Wilson - the Al-Hasawis mean business this year, right?
It does seem as though the new owners are going for it this year and have backed Billy Davies in the transfer market. Apparently the rebuilding hasn't quite finished yet, with the manager quoted as saying he still wants another three players in before the transfer window closes. How have former Hornets Darius Henderson and Henri Lansbury done for you?
I don't mind admitting that I wasn't a fan of Henderson's prior to us signing him, but he has very quickly made me change my opinion of him.
He's strong in the air and has good control for a big guy. Whilst I don't think he'll start every game, I do think he's a very good player to have in the squad and will be the perfect striker for certain games.
Henri Lansbury has lived up to the reputation he made for himself at Arsenal and has been a quality signing. He was a bit hit and miss at times last season, but he has played consistently well for us so far in this campaign.Who will be the key man on Sunday?
Look out for our full back Eric Lichaj bombing down the wing. He's another of our summer signings and came from Aston Villa. The midfielders have been winning most of the plaudits so far, but Lichaj has had a terrific start to the season. One Forest player you'd swap for a Watford player & why?
Dexter Blackstock for Troy Deeney please. Dex is a good lad, but since signing a four year contract, he just doesn't look interested anymore. It doesn't appear that he figures much in the manager's plans either, so someone who's in good form and knows where the onion bag is would come in very handy. Any injuries/suspensions?
Simon Cox is the only concern. He's been out for a fortnight with an ankle injury. Match prediction?
I'm hoping it's 2-3 to Forest.
