Loan watch: McGinn plays in Shrews win

Loan watch: McGinn plays in Shrews win
Stephen McGinn helped loan club Shrewsbury Town to victory on Saturday as he made his first start for the Shrews.

The 24 year-old midfielder had made four previous substitute appearances for Shrewsbury, but was handed his first start at Preston on Saturday.

Town ran out 2-1 winners thanks to captain Matt Richards' 90th-minute penalty.

Graham Westley's side went ahead after 43 minutes thanks to Stuart Beavon's strike before Jon Taylor equalised.

McGinn played the full 90.

Elsewhere in League One, Chris Iwelumo made his Oldham Athletic debut in a 3-1 defeat at Walsall.

The 34 year-old Scot started up front alongside fellow debutant Lee Barnard, who got the Latic's consolation goal.

Defeat cost Paul Dickov his job, with the hero of last weekend's giant-killing against Liverpool resigning today (Sunday).

Steve Beleck was a second-half substitute for Stevenage but was powerless to prevent Gary Smith's side going down 1-0 at home to Leyton Orient.

Dean Cox's 10th-minute strike separated the sides with Beleck entering as a 58th minute substitute.

Lee Hodson was an unused substitute for Brentford as they lost 3-0 at Yeovil Town.

In League Two, Britt Assombalonga returned to action with Southend United who ran out 1-0 winners over Oxford United.

Assombalonga was replaced in the 67th minute.

Aaron Tumwa and Wealdstone saw their match against Lowestoft Town washed out.
