Loan watch: Britt & Forsyth go head-to-head

THE HEADLINE story for Watford's loan rangers this weekend was the clash between Britt Assombalonga and Craig Forsyth in League Two.

Assombalonga's Southend United hosted Forsyth's Bradford City, fresh from their midweek League Cup heroics, and it looked like the Bantams were set to secure another important win.

Phil Parkinson's side went 2-0 up thanks to goals from Nakhi Wells and a Luke Prosser own-goal, before strikes in the last 10 minutes from Ryan Cresswell and Gavin Tomlin secured a point for the Shrimpers.

Assombalonga drew a rare blank as he played the full 90, whilst Forsyth replaced Tuesday's goal hero Garry Thompson with 31 minutes to play.

In League One, Chris Iwelumo and Lee Hodson could have come up against one another directly if the latter had featured.

Notts County lost 2-1 at home to Brentford, with Hodson once more an unused substitute.

Iwelumo was replaced by Enoch Showumni with 17 minutes to play.

Joe Garner also drew a blank at Carlisle United were beaten 2-1 at Shrewsbury Town.

In League Two, Piero Mingoia was an unused substitute as Leam Richardson's Accrington Stanley lost 2-0 at home to Wycombe Wanderers.

Matty Whichelow was not involved.

In non-league football, Aaron Tumwa came on as a substitute for Wealdstone, replacing the injured Wes Parker at the back.

Finally, Matt Bevans' Chesham United were dumped out the F.A Trophy 5-1 at home by Blue Square Premier outfit Barrow, with Bevans playing the full 90 minutes.
