Loan watch: Garner bags for Carlisle

JOE GARNER got his first goal of the season, re-opening his account for Carlisle United in their victory over Walsall on Saturday.

The Hornet`s striker, on-loan at Brunton Park for a month, bagged his first goal since returning to Northumbria as Greg Abbott`s side beat Dean Smith`s Saddlers 2-1.

A 90th minute winner from Liam Noble secured the win after Garner had struck in the 29th minute.

In League Two, Piero Mingoia was also amongst the goals, bagging his first since joining Accrington Stanley on-loan.

Despite Mingoia`s 37th minute strike Stanley were still beaten, Jason Kennedy`s 85th minute strike securing a 3-2 victory for Rochdale.

Mingoia was withdrawn in the 80th minute, whilst fellow loanee Matty Whichelow came off the bench with 16 minutes to play.

Britt Assombalonga drew a rare blank for Southend United who needed two second-half goals to secure a point against bottom-of-the-league Barnet.

Striker from Ricky Holmes and Jake Hyde put the Hertfordshire outfit ahead before a late rally by the Shrimpers. Assombalonga played the full 90.

Dale Bennett and Ross Jenkins would have come head-to-head as Wimbledon travelled to Plymouth Argyle, but neither man featured in an invaluable 2-1 win for the Dons.

Finally, Adam Thompson has returned to Vicarage Road after completing his loan spell with League Two strugglers Wycombe Wanderers.

The Northern Irish international tweeted earlier in the week to confirm his return to WD18.
