'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Short and Tweet: Middlesbrough (H)

Watford succumbed to a home defeat this afternoon thanks to some contentious refereeing at the Vic'.

It all started so well for the Golden Boys who took the lead in the 30th second through Troy Deeney, taking advantage of a sloppy backpass.

Middlesbrough levelled through Marvin Emnes, who had only been passed fit at the last minute.

Referee Steve Rushton then took centre stage, sending off his eighth player of the season in Matej Vydra, who appeared to leap out the way of Nicky Bailey's challenge.

Mr Rushton took that to be a stamp and dismissed the Czech forward.

'Boro capitalised on their man advantage in the second period when substitute Scott McDonald won the game with a neat finish.

Unsurprisingly the Twitterati were not happy over this one, here's a selection of family-suitable views on the game!

@thealexofsmith 'What to improve on: choose a qualified ref to run the match.'

@sam_shaw22 'We were dominant until the sending off, up to that we looked great and with all 11 men we would've won.'

@jackottman 'Great first 30 mins peformance, disgraceful decision at the end of the half ruined the game #shortandtweet'

@watfordburton 'I was 5 yards away and there is no chance in hell!! Nobody knew what happened, even Bailey.'

'Ref will be in league 2 next week, Sean Murray has lost his edge, Geijo is wafer thin and lightweight, no need to panic.'

@si_peat 'Afternoon ruined by Rushton. Most ridiculous red card since Dyer in 1993.'

@HayleyBrunsden 'Well, at least we had a good thirty seconds. #shortandtweet'

'We can't blame it solely on one individual. Actually, no, screw you Steve Rushton! Is that short enough?'

@Jack__Furlong 'Despite red card, game should have been dead and buried after 20 mins and bad finishing ultimately cost us #shortandtweet'

@SteveBirmingham 'Ref was a luton fan. Clueless.'

@LuxWFC 'Why take off Deeney for Geijo? We all know Deeney can last 90, Geijo was slow, sloppy and refused to shoot.'
