Loan watch: Britt secures pont for Shrimpers

It was a fairly low-key weekend for our band of youngsters currently away from the Vic', Britt Assombalonga leading the way with a point-securing goal against Plymouth.

The 19 year-old forward grabbed his sixth goal in eight starts for Southend United on Saturday to secure a share of the spoils against Plymouth Argyle.

Carl Fletcher's Pilgrims took the lead in the 50th minute through Alex McDonald before Assombalonga's 54th minute leveller.

Ross Jenkins was not included as part of Argyle's matchday 18.

Elsewhere in League Two, Matty Whichelow and Piero Mingoia of Accrington Stanley went head-to-head against Wimbledon's Dale Bennett.

Stanley won out 2-1 winners thanks to goals from Padraig Amond and Peter Murphy. Sammy Moore's late strike a mere consolation for the managerless Dons.

Bennett played 79 minutes for the the hosts before being replaced, whilst Whichelow managed 53. Mingoia entered the fray after 66 minutes.

In League One, Joe Garner's Carlisle United were beaten 2-0 at home by Crawley Town.

Garner played the full 90 minutes but was unable to prevent a defeat inflicted upon the Cumbrians by Nathan Byrne and Nicky Adams goals.

The 24 year-old was cup-tied for the midweek clash with Tottenham Hotspur having played for the 'Orns against Wycombe Wanderers in the first round.
