Internationals: Thompson captains N.Ireland
It was as proud a defeat as Adam Thompson will ever feature in on Monday as he skippered Northern Ireland for the first time.
Thompson, currently on-loan at Wycombe Wanderers, captained Northern Ireland's U21 side in a 3-0 defeat to Denmark in Aalborg.
Also on Monday night, Sean Murray
won his first U21 Republic of Ireland cap, scoring for the Irish in a famous victory.
The Republic beat their Italian counterparts 4-2 in their final 2013 European U21 Championships qualifier, however they were unable to qualify for next years tournament.
At senior level, Lee Hodson
was an unused substitute as Northern Ireland were pegged back by a late Luxembourg leveller.
Hodson's Northern Ireland went ahead through Dean Shiels before an 86th minute Daniel Da Mota Alves' leveller.
The Hornet's full-back was also an unused substitute as Northern Ireland went down 2-0 to Russia in Fabio Capello's first match as Russia boss.Nyron Nosworthy
was also in World Cup 2014 qualifying action as he played for Jamaica against the USA in Ohio.
The Brixton-born defender was part of a Reggae Boyz side that went down 1-0 to the States, leaving Jamaica third in their CONCACAF qualifying group.
Czech Republic striker Matej Vydra
won his second cap for the senior side, coming on as a substitute against Finland.
Finland ran out 1-0 winners thanks to a Teemu Pukki strike two minutes before half-time.
Vydra made his Czech Republic debut the previous Saturday, starting and playing the first 73 minutes of a goalless World Cup qualifier against Denmark.
Finally, another loanee in international action will be Cristian Battocchio
who is part of the Italy U20 squad for their Four Nations tournament match with Switzerland tonight.
Poland and Germany make up the other opposition for the Azzurri.
