The Vital Interview: Nyron Nosworthy
Watford powerhouse Nyron Nosworthy arrived on-loan from Sunderland in October 2011, with the Hornets in desperate need of points from upcoming matches against Peterborough United and Brighton. The rest, as they say, is history...

"I knew there was a pressure to a certain extent. I was thinking 'if I have a stinker just make sure I try hard`. In the end it all went perfectly well, we won [3-2 against Peterborough] and I had a solid game so I was pleased with that,' says the Brixton-born defender.

Nosworthy had spent seven years with the Wearside outfit previously, playing under the volatile Roy Keane during his spell with the Black Cats:

"I actually liked him - a lot of people have different views. He was a bit harsh at times but his stature in terms of what he`d done in the game was brilliant.

"He wasn`t much of a talker but he had his moments and obviously it was his first managerial job and he handled things differently.'

During his second season with the club, Nosworthy scooped the club's 'Player of the Season' award as the Mackems returned to the Premier League at the first time of asking:

"It was lovely, it was massive, something to cherish. There was so much going on; a lot of coming and going and the transformation for me going from full-back, where people weren`t sure about me, to centre-half just cemented things and was really a weight off my shoulders. I believed in my ability and I managed to do that and, from there, the fans were brilliant for me and I had a fantastic time."

Eventually Nosworthy's association with Sunderland came to an end, the 31 year-old jumping at the opportunity to play first-team football once more:

"There was the [wage] cut, but it gets to the point but you have to add up everything. Do you want to be part of something where you`re a bit-part player?

"I was looking at my age and I wanted to play as much football as possible and enjoy it, and that was the decision I made."

Nosworthy returned to the north east for a just a day before completing a permanent switch to WD18 in January, going on to excel alongside both Martin Taylor and the since-departed Adrian Mariappa at the heart of the Hornet's defence.
