What does the future hold for - Rene Gilmartin?

As the season draws to a close, it`s time for players, managers and the relevant hierarchy to sit down and discuss the future of certain players. In this series Vital Watford look at the futures of those who are out of contract, out of favour, or only on-loan at Vicarage Road.

This week it`s the turn of Rene Gilmartin. Get involved by commenting below to let us know whether or not you agree or disagree.

Even as a backup 'keeper, Rene Gilmartin has failed at Watford unfortunately. The likeable Irishman even tasted league football for the 'Orns this season but two games after replacing the dropped Scott Loach, the former Walsall man was back on the bench.

Loan spells with Yeovil Town, where he was a regular, and Crawley Town, where he wasn`t, will surely have aided his development. However, with Loach short of confidence anyway, having someone underneath him who won`t realistically challenge for the first-team jersey any time soon (or ever perhaps), is not beneficial to either man.

Factor in Jonathan Bond - who will challenge and take that number one shirt sooner or later, and you`ve got a position where Gilmartin is completely surplus to requirements.

Personally I`d let him go and find first-team football in League One or League Two, but in this day and age it`s fashionable to have three senior 'keeper`s; it`s whether or not he wants to be number three or not...
