Opposing View - Cardiff City

Opposing View - Cardiff City
How kind a run in do Cardiff have in relation to their Play Off aspirations?

I suppose you'd say our run-in looks easier on paper but in the Championship that hardly seems to matter! Many of the sides in the top half have been in poor form recently and I honestly don't know if I'd rather play those sides, those scrapping at the bottom or those with little to play for but are relaxed and usually beat us!

Has the Carling Cup Final defeat had a negative impact on the squad?

I don't think so.

There were certainly signs of this 'extended dip' in form prior to that and it was so unexpected to reach the final - it was just a bonus. I think fatigue may have been increased due to the extra games, but I wouldn't attribute any other loss of form to the Cup.

What is to blame for your recent dip in form?

The January transfer window.

It's hard to look beyond that because we

ave been desperate all season for pace, width and a striker. I can't believe Mackay doesn't know this but it didn't come off (a close call with Sordell apparently...).

Whether thats due to a apucity of players, our own finances or just bad luck - I don't know. Failure to strengthen has definitely cost us.

What is the impression of Malky Mackay a few months further down the line?

Certain supporters have begun to turn on him, but I find that absurd. I think he has been a little too stubborn, and reliant on a misfiring system and individuals but he has still done a fine job and I'm glad to have him. There are many 'fans' who look at results alone, but the truth is we have made huge strides on and off the field this season and Mackay has been integral to that.

Same question, but Don Cowie?

A key player early in the season, and odds on to become a fans favourite with a calmness and tidy passing game to go with his superlative fitness and work ethic. The goals dried up, he doesn't have a set position or role and has lost confidence. I like Cowie but you have to question - does he contribute enough?

Who will be the key man for you on Saturday?

It's too easy to say Whittingham so I'll go with an unusual choice - Aron Gunnarsson. He contributes in all areas and on good days as a strong attacking force from deep. If he's playing well, so are Cardiff City though it may well be the other way round - either way, he's a good indicator of our form.

Where will you finish?

A tough call, but all the signs now suggest we will miss out. A revival to end the season would be great but 8th place is dragging us in!

Match prediction?

Our home form will change soon, an early goal would be massive but based on current form a 1-1 draw seems on the cards.

Cheers Rhod. Interesting to see how Don and Malky aren't the best thing since sliced bread with certain sections of your support anymore!
