Britt bags another brace



Britt Assombalonga lead the way for Watford's loanees this weekend, bagging another brace for Braintree at the expense of Gateshead.

The Congo-born attacking midfielder helped the Essex-based club to a 3-1 victory over Ian Bogie's side having scored twice in the 4-3 win at Newport County.

Assombalonga, 19, now has five goals in as many games for the Blue Square Premier outfit.

Back in Football League One, Scunthorpe United pair David Mirfin and Josh Walker have had a mixed week for the Iron.

Mirfin put his side ahead at Oldham Athletic on Tuesday night in a 2-1, however Walker was dismissed a minute from time, missing Saturday's draw at Preston.

Brentford's Adam Thompson got 90 minutes for Brentford in their 2-0 win over Exeter on Tuesday but did not feature on Saturday. Saido Berahino notched a brace for Uwe Rosler's side.

In League Two, Jonathan Bond's Dagenham & Redbridge took two beatings in a week, going down 4-0 at high-fliers Swindon City before losing 2-1 at Wimbledon on Saturday.

Fellow goalkeeper Rene Gilmartin at Crawley Town helped his side to a 0-0 draw at Southend on Monday night live on Sky.

Gilmartin drew 2-2 at Macclesfield on Saturday with goals from defenders Claude Davis and Kyle McFadzean.

In the non-league, Wealdstone pair Tommie Hoban and Connor Smith were powerless to prevent the Stones 3-1 reverse by Newport County at Saturday.

Hoban was on the bench whilst fellow Irish youth international Smith was suspended for the Harrow club.

Stones will now host the Welsh outfit back at Grovsner Vale as they look to overturn the deficit.
