'If It's Football, It's Vital'

2011/12 Season Preview: Derby County

VitalWatford take a look at what's brewing in the Rams camp ahead of the big kick-off...

Gaffer: Nigel Clough, who having failed to deliver anything other than disappointment during his time at Pride Park must surely be under pressure now.

It's a complete re-build once more for the Rams, but will he get it right this time?

Position 10/11: A hugely disappointing 19th - no-where near where Rams fans would have expected to finish in Clough's second full season at thre Midlands club.

In: Frank Fielding (Blackburn, 400k), Jamie Ward (Sheffield United, undisc.), Nathan Tyson (Nottingham Forest, free), Theo Robinson (Millwall, undisc.), Adam Legzdins (Burton Albion, undisc.), Jason Shackell (Barnsley, 750k), Chris Maguire (Aberdeen, 400k) and Craig Bryson (Kilmarnock 350k).

Out: Robbie Savage (Retired), Chris Porter, Michael Boudling (released), Luke Varney (Portsmouth, 750k) and Ben Pringle (Rotherham United, free).

Star Man: Versatile midfield man, Ben Davies has the potential to take over where Kris Commons left off.

Signed from Notts County in January, the 29 year-old can play anywhere across midfield and has a good delivery. Chips in with goals and assists to boot.

Best Business: Frank Fielding for 400k is the perfect replacement for Stephen Bywater and has impressed on loan with the Rams.

An England U21 regular, the former Blackburn youngster will thrive on playing regular football.

Prediction: As ever, an unknown quantity. If things click, they could do well. If not, they'll fall flat on their backsides and end up fighting relegation once more. A very interesting side to watch!
