Toon interested in 'Orns duo?

If you believe relegation fodder paper, The Sun [in the tabloid reliability leage at least]then Watford duo Tommy Smith and captain U.S.A himself, Jay DeMerit are being monitered by none other than crisis club and general laughing stock of the football world, Newcastle United.

Whether there is a shred of truth in the Smith link or not, the chances of Jay DeMerit plugging the Toon Army's leaky defence are higher. Smith has made it clear he doesn't want to move North [an' who can blame him?], after rejecting Watford's second string side, Sheff U, so a trip a few hours North of Yorkshire seems unlikely - unless he's swayed by the history, glamour, etc...psssh.

DeMerit on the other hand is out of contract at then end of the season, probably on a fair whack and with Newcastle flogging 9k p/week centre half, Seb Bassong to 'Arry Redknapp's Spurs last week, perhaps the move fits.

Either way, it's gonna take Cockney Cowboy, Mike Ashley, to finally make a decision on selling the club and a permanent manager to replace the terminally baffled Chris Hughton before anything happens!
