Midweek Memoirs of Mr Bodell

Midweek Memoirs of Mr Bodell
With the European Championships over it's finally time to turn my attentions back to the domestic football front and actually offer my opinion on Watford! It's been a busy week for the Hornets and here's what I've made of it all...

Congratulations on a successful tenure, Graham Simpson who has announced he will actively try and sell the club this week. Though some, including perhaps I have been scathing towards the board of late, but Mr Simpson deserves a huge pat on the back after 6 years at the top of this football club. He took Watford on when everyone else shyed away. This fact should not be forgotten, irrespective of whether you agree with Simpson's spending/development/other plans and choices at the club.

The Russo brothers would be......good for Watford:
1. The know the club.
2. They've already pumped 6million in.
3. They were on the board.
4. They came in when we were skint, so they aren't glory hunting, quick-buck-makers.
5. They were entrusted to join before, so why not now...?

We'll see...

Danny Shittu has to...leave! I know he was important to us last, scrap that, integral, virtually the reason along with Tommy Smith that we scraped into the Play Offs, but sadly, one player doesn't make a club and with the 3million plus we should net from the big mans sale, Boothroyd will finally be able to add a striker and whatever else he fancies. With Shittu 'out the way', Jay DeMerit will surely find himself back in favour and rightly so, as I've argued before he is 'club captain'.

No great loss...Toumani Diagouraga, Damien Francis, Mart Poom, Matt Jackson and Steve Kabba. The thing that makes me laugh about these transfer listings is that two were signed last Summer 'to help win promotion' - Jackson and Poom, whilst the others, bar Diagouraga were all Boothroyd captures - it finally seems he has gotten over his pride and learnt to cull his own rubbish.

Mr Boothroyd, please give Will Hoskins a chance! The kid is proven at League One level, done well at this with Rotherham and ISN'T A RIGHT WINGER! Stick him up front next season with Darius Henderson and I think he will thrive. Henderson needs a nippy little player next to him and Hoskins can be that player, if given a chance, and NOT in the league cup.

Goodbye Lloyd Doyley. Not always everyone's cup of tea as a defender, but having made over 100 appearances for the club he deserves some sort of ceremony in his departure so to speak. Does he have more ability than Mariappa? No, and whilst Mariappa is around Doyley's presence will hamper his as his Championship experience is preferential to Mariappa's which is minimal. However, good luck Lloyd.

Keep the faith,

Tom Bodell
