Watford finally ended their long-running left-back problems with the capture of Stoke City defender Carl Dickinson for an undisclosed fee on July 29 2011.

The Swandlincote-born full-back spent seven years at the Britannia Stadium making 51 appearances for the Potters, helping the club to the Premier League in doing so.

Once in the Premier League, 'Dicko' found his first-team opportunities limited and spent time on-loan with Portsmouth amongst others.

The aggressive left-back's first season at the Vic' saw him make 37 Championship appearances in a solid first season in WD18. His fist-pumping and never-say-die attitude certainly helped endear him to the 'Orns faithful from the off.

On October 22 2012, Dickinson agreed a month-long loan deal at Portsmouth making six appearances.

In February 2013, Dickinson moved out on -loan again to join Coventry City.

Contracted until June 2014
