Second-year professional Britt Assombalonga was plucked from the club's own 'football in the community' scheme before earning a scholarship at the Harefield Academy.

A winger-cum-forward, Assombalonga's enormous progression was capped off when he was named on the bench for the first time at the end of the 2010/11 season.

DR Congo-born Assombalonga spent much of the 2011/12 season out on-loan, tasting success with Wealdstone, scoring 12 goals in two months and hitting a further five in as many games with Blue Square Premier Braintree.

Late in the season, Assombalonga was re-called to make his first-team debut in a 0-0 draw at home to Coventry. He went on to make three further appearances under Sean Dyche before the end of the season.

On August 17 2012, Assombalonga moved out on loan once more, joining Southend United on a one-month loan deal before extending that deal until the end of the season on December 19.

In January 2013, Assombalonga became the latest in a line of homegrown talents to commit himself to the 'Orns, penning a deal until June 2014, with an option for a further year.

Contracted until June 30 2014.
