Exciting young full-back-cum-centre-back handed his debut for the Hornets by Malky Mackay in a 2-1 reverse against Notts County in the League Cup at the age of 17.

Yet another product of the club's highly-successful Harefield Academy, Thompson won his first full Northern Ireland cap against Scotland in February 2011 in the Carling Cup of Nations.

After failing to break into Sean Dyche's squad during the 2011/12 season, Thompson spent three months on-loan at League One Brentford before returning on-loan in February, extending the deal until the end of the season.

In late August of 2012, Thompson moved out on-loan again, joining local League Two side Wycombe Wanderers for a month before joining fellow League Two outfit Barnet for one match before returning with a dislocated shoulder.

Joined Southend United on-loan until January 4 2014 on August 9.

Contracted until June 30 2013.
