In 2006, veteran stopper Alec Chamberlain became player-goalkeeping coach before retiring in 2007 to take up the role full-time.

Having amassed more than 750 pro' appearances, Chamberlain was sent off just once and is held in high esteem by fellow pro's and colleagues alike.

Chamberlain celebrated 10 years at Watford as a player in 2005 with a testemonial versus Charlton, 5000+ attended.
