Forgotten man steals show

Borehamwood
1 - 3
Watford

Referee:

Watford got their pre-season off to the best start possible cruising past local non-league outfit Borehamwood. Though the scoreline mightn't have reflected the gulf in class, a gulf there was.

The home side scarcely threatened in the first half as Mart Poom, filling in for the injured Richard Lee enjoyed an untroubled first forty-five minutes.

Watford lined-up with the all new 4-3-3 formation which has been mooted over the course of pre-season training by fans and manager alike. With Darius Henderson off to Sheffield United earlier in the day, Tamas Priskin was flanked by pacey youngster Theo Robinson and Jobi McAnuff.

John Eustace and Tamas Priskin, amongst others tested home 'keeper Imber but were unable to beat the stopper who was saved at one point by a defender clearing off the line.

Indeed, the Wood held on until substitute Moses Ashikodi stepped up off the bench to prove his worth ahead of the season with two goals, the first a curling effort after cutting in from the right before a Wood equaliser. Ashikodi then set about restoring the lead by toe-poking Watford ahead from a free kick before provider of the second, Lawrence Hunter curled a free kick home of his own accord.

We always take a mixture of players to Borehamwood. Expect Tom to play against Brentford later this week.
