Smudger & Jay in Team of Week

Smudger & Jay in Team of Week

Captain America and Smudger Smith are the pick of the league after last weekend`s games as 2 key members of Watford`s backbone were named in the Championship`s Team of the Week.

Tommy 'Smudger` Smith was back to his brilliant best against the Valiants and gave promising Charlton full back Kelly Youga a proper lesson in wing play during Saturday`s 1-1 draw.

'Captain America` Jay DeMerit also put in a solid performance at the other end of the pitch and did a darn good job on shutting down the lanky goal threat that is Chris Iweluemu. The Hornets never handle height that well (just ask Colchester`s Clive Platt) but DeMerit had the Addicks giant in his pocket for much of the first half and saw the striker replaced early in the second 45.

Elsewhere, it`s a bit of January transfer fest for the rest of the Team of the Week. Goalscoring Wolves debutants David Edwards and Sylvain Ebanks-Blake earn a place, QPR striker Rowan Vine (a £2m capture from St Andrews) got a slot upfront whilst Stokie defender Leon Cort netted a brace on his full debut in the Potteries, after signing permanently from Palace.

So The Team of the Week in full : Speroni (Palace), Bullen (Sheff Wed), Captain America (Watford), Cort (Stoke), Dickinson (Stoke), Smith (Watford), Whelen (Sheff Wed), Edwards (Wolves), Jarvis (Wolves), Vine (QPR), Ebanks Blake (Wolves).

Good work Gents.
