Ordinary boys turn up at Preston

Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd reckons his side "were average at times" in the 1-0 defeat at Preston but insists excuses won`t be made.

Boothroyd saw Neil Mellor take two attempts to inflict only the 3rd away defeat on his Hornets side in a game that the Watford gaffer believes "Preston deserved to win".

And the Watford boss said of the ordinary showing from his Hornets "We were intermittent today, we were very good at times and we were average at times. You can`t be like that, you`ve got to be consistent, and efficient, and we weren`t. We were poor in our approach play."

Even The Times, in a seriously damning review of the Watford performance at Deepdale, said "Watford were comfortable for long periods of the game"…

Talk about inconsistencies…but there`s nothing worse than being 'plain average`
