Shittu in as Vogts loses his heads

Shittu in as Vogts loses his heads

Watford`s man mountain centre half Danny Shittu has come through the final round of cuts unscathed for selection in the 23-man Super Eagles squad and will go to Ghana.

Nigerian head coach Berti Vogts has left no stone unturned in pursuit of putting together a squad capable of winning the African Nations Cup with experimental sides turning out in friendlies and a sizeable number of players being put through their paces at a Malaga training camp.

And Shittu must have been sweating over his fate when it was revealed that Vogts was favouring "fresh faced pace and trickery over brawn". Danny boy is, by his own admission, neither quick nor tricky but is in a fine fettle of form going into the group stages clash with Ivory Coast, Mali and Benin.

The Hornets rock steady stopper is 1 of 9 'African Nations` virgins attending the competition for the first time but hey, at least he`s on his way…

Duisburg`s Mannaseh Ishiaku, Dynamo Kiev`s Jusuf Ayila and Sporting Lisbon`s Rabir Ibrahim miss out along with local Nigerian league stars Kingsley Udoh and Efe Ambrose.

Great player, looks as if he's improved since his time at Rangers. Love to have him back if the situation arose.
