Watfords yellow not right for Iliev

Glory Hornet transfer target Valentin lliev is believed to have rejected the chance to join Championship promotion chasers Watford and Premiership big boys Blackburn Rovers to sign up for Glenn Roeder`s revolution at struggling Norwich City.

28 year-old Bulgarian International defender lliev had seemed keen on a move to Hertfordhire following reports that he was ready to undergo a trial last season, but such is life and CSKA Moscow refused to release him. Now it seems the time is right for the strapping centre half to tackle the ferocity of English Championship football with both hands but in the yellow shirts of Norwich surprisingly

Iliev says "I think the physical style of football played in England would suit me well. The deal can still fall through, but I am ready for any outcome.

The signing of Iliev will set the Canaries back 700k and should go through in time for the CSKA Moscow captain to make the squad for Barnsley on the 12th January.

In the meantime, Watford will be left wondering whether Aidy Boothroyd will rue his decision not to take more of a gamble on a player with Champions League experience!

Small point - I think you'll find it's CSKA Sofia, the Bulgarian team who knocked Liverpool out of the Champions League in 2005 - Iliev scored the goal at Anfield which did the deed.
