Calum : best option for Watford?

Oh how we do love a spot of lazy journalism here at VitalWatford! So we just had to let you know that the dog-earred hacks at the Daily Mail are the first this transfer window to hint that Watford are about to make a bid for centre back Calum Davenport, now at West Ham.

The Hornets have been linked with the former Coventry and Tottenham Hotspur defender now for the last 5 transfer windows without any signs of the ex England U21 star signing on the dotted line.

The 25 year old was even considered a makeweight in a proposed deal that was meant to see Ashley Young move to White Hart Lane last January but the offer fell through.

Boothroyd may well remain a big fan of the even bigger 6ft4 Bedford born stopper but Davenport has not featured for the Hammers first team this season despite shelling out 3m for his services and he has yet to find his Coventry form even out on loan at Norwich or Southampton.

He was a panic buy when we were near the bottom of the league looking to climb back up. You're welcome to him, though I can't see him even breaking into the squad with you guys
