Aidy starts stopper chase

Championship high-flyers Watford are believed to have joined the chase for Carlisle United`s young stopper, Kieran Westwood.

Westwood is being chased by Sam Allardyce at Newcastle also, so the Hornets face stiff competition for the young Cumbrian`s signature.

This story puts pressure on the places of Richard Lee and especially Mart Poom who has spent much the season injured, away on international duty and short of form. Richard Lee currently possesses the Hornet's number one jersey whilst Scott Loach (picked up from Lincoln a few seasons back) is his deputy.

Westwood started his career at Manchester City but left in 2004 without a first-team appearance to his name. He would have learnt from greats such as David Seaman and Peter Schmeichel whilst at Eastlands.

Since moving to Cumbria in 2004 the stopper has made 104 league starts and is the clubs number one. Carlisle gaffer (and former Glory Hornet) John Ward would not be keen to sell his prized 'keeper although he may be swayed in order to add a couple of new faces to his outfield personnel.

Here at VitalWatford Towers we remain unconvinced that Aidy sees fit to add a FIFTH goalkeeper to his playing staff (if you include the ressies new boy Ian Joyce), but stranger things have indeed happened…
