"3-0 to the football team' sang the West Brom travelling support jubilantly at the departing Watford home support. The 'best chant of the weekend' went the way of the Baggies fans on various websites...
VitalWatford reckon that, this morning, there might be a different tune being sung...
In the build up to the Hornets clash with the Canaries, on-loan wing wizard Adam Johnson told the Watford official club site "I think that, come May, the league table will have been made of teams slitting each others throats. It is that tight"…
And you know what, the tricky Watford wideman's wiSe words are bang on - last night`s results proved his point perfectly.
In truth, Watford were battered by West Brom at the Vic on Saturday - outclassed in every department, outfought for every ball and outplayed across the pitch and the excellent Baggies travelling support were right to praise their team
But in the Championship, it`s consistency that counts and whilst Tony Moybray`s side got 'up` for the big occasion on Saturday, Brom were back to their moderate best last night and only picked up a point against lowly Sheffield Wednesday at home.
Whilst the 'battered Hornets` regrouped, refocused and won comfortably on the road at Carrow Road with Henderson and King back on the scoresheet.
Bristol City too lost ground, whilst there were another 5 draws last night - great for the pools coupon but not too hot if you are trying to pick up points.
So the Hornets go 8 points clear at the top despite a bad result on Saturday, Brom reveal their achilles heal (or should that read Phillips knee?) and all looks rosy again at the head of the pile…
Roll on Colchester!
