'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Training game 'Blues' for Hornets

International week and a break from the nitty gritty of the Championship it might be but it doesn`t stop The Good Ship Boothroyd from getting in some match action, this time in a 'behind closed doors` match against the mighty Chelsea.

The Hornets with a relatively strong side - including Richard Lee, King Marlon, Steve Kabba and Adrian Mariappa - took on a Chelsea team spearheaded by the experienced quintet of Didier Drogma, Steve Sidwell, Saloman Kalou, Wayne Bridge and goalkeeper Hilario at the Blue`s training ground in Cobham on Friday.

The full-sided game, which ended in a narrow 3-2 defeat for the Glory Hornet Boys, was orchestrated to give new Chelsea coach Henk ten Cate a good opportunity to have a long hard look at the first team and fringe players at his disposal and also run an eye over some of the club`s hot prospects.

The people in the know down at the official Chelsea club site reported that it was ' a goaless first-half although Watford`s Marlon King did hit the woodwork…and it took a good Hilario save in the dying moments to preserve the win.'.

As usual, there is no news of the runout on the Watford official pages so unfortunately, whilst the VitalWatford boys can tell you that Slovakian striker Miroslav Stoch, Spanish midfielder Sergio Tejera and James Simmons notched for Chelsea, we aren`t able to inform on who was on the scoresheet for the Hornets.

Typical huh.
