'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Aidy Says

Aidy Boothroyd's assesment of last nights victory over Cardiff has given me plenty to chew over.

The Bradford-born supremo reflected on a typical away-day performance: 'We weathered some storms, defended well and ground out a result without playing that well.

'It says a lot that (goalkeeper) Mart Poom was our man-of-the-match with some great saves.

'Darius Henderson is on fire, scoring goals and I've not been in the position before to be able to leave Marlon King and Jobi McAnuff on the bench.'

Bluebirds boss Dave Jones was evidently singing off the same songsheet as he told of how his side had been beaten: 'You cannot make mistakes at the back like that against a team as good as Watford.
'We never lost the game because we were outplayed, but because we switched off.

'We have to concentrate, particularly on set plays, as we actually cleared the ball before both goals but were not awake for the second phase.'

Mr Bodell says:
'It worries me a little bit that we go to a place like Cardiff, hardly world-beaters, and only manage to scrape victory as we did.

On the other hand however, they are by no means a bad side and we don't have a divine right to go anywhere and everywhere and return with 3 points. It's pleasing though to win away from home and to have 'weathered the storm.'

Let's be thankful - I remember trips to Cov and Preston in our promotion season where we were ragged and got hammered...Ragged and picking up 3 points is what promotion form is all about!

Aidy knows there is more to come but what an great start (Leciester) apart.

Too right. Not the most attractive but scoring goals and looking dangerous again at set pieces...A throw back to the early 80s with Callaghan and Barnes whipping the crosses in.
