Big week for workmanlike O'Toole
VitalWatford Towers can`t help but think that 18 year old, Academy midfielder John-Joe O`Toole must be feeling pretty pleased with himself after a 'job well done` in the past 7 days.
2nd Year scholar, O`Toole, made his long awaited club debut, as a second half sub, in the 2-1 Carling Cup exit to Southend and was one of the few positives to come out of the drab night at Roots Hall.
The shaggy haired, central midfielder was then given his first taste of league action just 96 hours later, when he replaced goalscorer Tommy Smith, in the 2-0 Championship win over Ipswich.
It`s been quite a baptism of fire for John Jo after making 9 reserve team appearances last season and spending time out on loan with Wealdstone, where he scored 3 goals in 9 games for the Southern Football League Premier division side.
He traveled with the first team squad on the pre-season tour of Germany whilst experienced campaigners such as Al Bangura and Steve Kabba stayed at home and has already opened his goal account for the reserves this season with a strike in a 2-1 win v Aldershot.
Yet the youngster will still have to wait until later this month to find out whether he`s done enough to earn his first pro contract with Aidy Boothroyd`s side.
Fingers crossed huh.
