Who Are Ya?...Leicester City (away)
The transfer merri-go-round has been at full tilt at the Walkers Stadium after Milan Mandoric poached Martin Allen from MK Dons. Dr Watford runs a quick eye over what to expect of his new look outfit.
Ah, Mad Dog Martin Allen . Here at VitalWatford Towers we only have respect for the man. A forthright, combative central midfielder in his playing days and now his no nonsense, non comventional approach to man management make our very own Aidy Boothroyd look straight laced.
Naughty chairs, half time pitch sit outs, dirty laundry in public and all that…you name it Allen has tried it and that`s why fans love him. Yep he may not have had a string of high profile roles but his record at Barnet, Brentford and MK Dons (a 50% win rate) on a shoestring budget and all his sides have had a right old hearty appetite for battle. Well, lets face it, the Vital Watford boys wouldn`t fancy popping into that dressing room had we not run our little ol` socks off for 90 minutes.
MORE THAN HIS 15 MINUTES OF FAME…
Google the new Foxes club captain Stephen Clemence and what do you find…Son of Ray!!! OK, OK so the former Spurs and Birmingham man may be still trying to fight out from his dad`s shadow but a £1m move to the Walkers Stadium and a batch of England U21 caps prove the playmaking midfielder is a chip off the ol block so to speak (as long as he stay injury free). His missus is also off Dream Team so she`s bound to be pretty fit as well.
BETTER KEEP AN EYE ON…
James Wesolowski. Strewth mate, the 20 year old Aussie midfielder has turned in a host of impressive performances for the Foxes after making the move from Oz side Northern Spirit a few seasons back and has already opened his account this season with a goal against Stanley in the Carling Cup. Was picked out by the Aussie Soccer Federation as a 'Star in the making`….which holds him in good stead for future national squads.
ONE FOR THE FUTURE
The VitalWatford boys were particularly impressed with 17 year old left back Joe Mattack in his outings last season so we`re not surprised to hear on the Vital Grapevine that he has a hatful of caps for the England U15, U16 and U17 sides.
20 year old Irish defender Alan Sheehan will be looking to get a firmer foothold in the Foxes first eleven this term after getting on the teamsheet for the Stanley and Palace games so he was…(well, it beats being shipped out on loan again to Mansfield).
THE 'MUST WIN` HEAD TO HEAD
Jobi McAnuff has already shown enough in a Hornets shirt to show he`s gonna be a good signing so new recruit, Bulgarian International Radostin Kishishev(ex Charlton), is gonna need all the experience from his 75 international outings to get to grips with the Watford winger…That`s if his aging East European legs will let him keep up. Yep, we saw his performances in the World Cup as well!!!!
BIG UP TOP?
4 players in during the summer so there`s more strikers now at the Walkers Stadium that you could shake a proverbial stick at. Carl Cort has arrived from Wolves, the overpriced DJ Campbell turned down the advances of the Good Ship Bootroyd to rejoin his old Brentford boss, and Canadian international Iain Hume joins Matty Fryatt , Mark De Vries and Elvis Hammond waiting in the wings…Well, who needs Jimmy Hasselbaink anyway!
AIN'T YOU PAST IT?
A word of advice for you,Bruno N`Gotty. That UEFA Cup Winners Cup Winners medal you`ve got, well I`d stick it on ebay if I were you - that`s a proper rare one that is! With over 500 career games to boot, the well traveled centre half has more miles on the clock than a beat up old Rover but the pedigree is still there. And a CV full of Europe`s finest (and Bolton and Birmingham) includes Lyon, AC Milan, Marseille and PSG proves its. Yet with only 6 international starts to his name, the 36 year old has fewer French national caps than a Parisian gendamerie.
WATFORD REJECT, WATFORD REJECT 'ELLO ELLO…
James Chambers - let go by the Sir Aidy in the summer to the surprise of everyone here at VitalWatford and was soon snapped up by Martin Allen on a free transfer. The utility player netted the 2nd of Watford`s goals in the Playoff win over Leeds and brings bagfuls of Championship know how with him.
DR WATFORD`S GREAT BIG 'I NEVER KNEW THAT` MOMENT
Knowledge is Power! Martin Allen and Aidy Boothroyd were on the same UEFA Pro License course at Warwick University and both graduated ni the same year….Reports that they both used to smoke behind the bikesheds and play conkers in the playground are sadly unconfirmed…
VERDICT - THE 'GOOD SHIP BOOTHROYD` OUTLOOKHAZY. All the ins and outs at Walkers Stadium will mean Martin Allen`s side need time to gel and early signs have shown this to be the case but the Watford clash could provide enough motivation for the Foxes to kickstart the season and they have a good record against us. The Horns could therefore find the going a bit bit nip and tuck (a bit like a WAG`s birthday present in truth).
