Eagles lands at Vicarage Road

Aidy Boothroyd has landed Chris Eagles on a six-month loan deal from Manchester United.

The twenty-year-old, who was born in Hemel Hempstead and was part of the youth academy until he signed for Manchester United in 2000, returns to Vicarage Road for a second loan-spell. Last season former Hornets boss Ray Lewington signed Eagles on a three-month loan deal with the exciting winger scoring once in thirteen appearances for the Hornets. It had been widely speculated that Boothroyd had tried to capture Eagles on a loan-deal in the close-season but the winger opted to go to Sheffield Wednesday instead. Eagles scored three times in twenty-five first team appearances for the Owls until his loan deal expired at the end of December.

“I am delighted that we have secured the services of Chris until the end of the season,” commented Boothroyd. ”He is a tremendous talent who has got a bright future ahead of him in the game. “I am sure he will make a significant contribution as we make a concerted effort to promotion,” the Hornets boss told the club’s official website.

Eagles told watfordfc.com, “Joining Watford feels absolutely right and I’m really pleased to be joining a team that is doing so well and is keen to get into the Premier League.” The winger added, “Last year, the club was facing a battle against relegation. This time round, promotion is a distinct possibility providing the lads continue to do their talking on the pitch. I will do everything I can to repay the faith shown in me by Aidy.”

With Eagles, Young, Devlin and McNamee, Boothroyd now has an abundance of wingers to choose from in Watford’s push for promotion.
