'Well I think the second half was a lot more positive than the first,' Boothroyd told PremPlus.
'I think the first 30 minutes we were inept. We then started to play again, but the damage was done.
'When we're not at it we look like a team that can do a lot better and that was tonight I'm afraid.
'It was a five-minute spell that cost us. Disappointed, but I've said to the players we've got to get back.
'There are 30 points to play for and we're where we are for a reason. We've competed and not won.
'We've done so many good things, but we've not won. We've got 10 games to go and we've got to win a good percentage of those if we're to give ourselves a chance.'
Everton boss Moyes said, 'I thought our players went about their jobs brilliantly in the opening minutes and, but for some poor finishing, we could have wrapped it up by half-time. I do think it was a penalty. We have had about 10 (turned down) this year which were very similar and we think eight were definites.'
'I'm sure a lot of people will be hoping (Andrew Johnson) does the same for England in the next few weeks, or whenever he plays. He is a real threat.
'I can't do anything about people calling him a cheat; we just want Andy Johnson to carry on playing as well as he is.'
Johnson made sure he celebrated the goal right in front of the Watford fans but Moyes refused to condemn him straight away.
He said: 'I honestly didn't see it but I will have a look at the video, probably on Monday morning.'
