Silva - We Had To Right Some Wrongs
Watford head coach Marco Silva has spoken of his delight at the attitude of the players following the victory over Bristol City this weekend.
Hosting the Championship side at Vicarage Road this weekend for the FA Cup third round clash, Silva said he had made a point of telling the players that they needed to produce to make up for our earlier loss to the side in the League Cup fixture earlier in the season.
Having made six changes back in August, Silva only made three this time around and he told the Official Site it was a reflection on how seriously he took the game.
'Today we respect the competition, ourselves, our fans and we were serious. I told our players we need to respect our fans and we had an obligation to win and qualify for the next round. Always when you win it gives more confidence to everyone. We prepared to win, we won 3-0 and didn't concede a goal.'
With Bristol City having half an eye on Manchester City next Tuesday, Silva went on to say that there was no way we would underestimate them again or rely on that as they are a good side earning plaudits.
'They are doing very well, not only in league but in the Championship as well. They have surprised four Premier League teams this season and when we played against them we didn't perform well. We didn't perform in the right way. Today everything was different. It was clear we deserved the win.'
With Troy Deeney making a goalscoring return following his four game suspension, Silva was also delighted to see him on the scoresheet.
'It's important for Troy — just like it's important for Andre and Okaka. It's important we have them available and then it's for me to choose and make a decision. We have not had Troy available for seven of the last ten games and that is not normal. Of course it was good to get 90 minutes in his legs and it's always important for a striker to score.'
He ended with a comment about Andre Carrillo who scored for a second successive week.
'Carrillo is playing very well and every match he plays with more confidence. The only thing missing was for him to score and he has scored again today. Pereyra is also an important player. We need to put him in a good level of fitness and now is the moment to complete his physical condition.'
