Slow Start Gave Stoke The Advantage - Silva

Watford head coach Marco Silva has admitted the sides slow start to this weekend's game against Stoke City gifted them the advantage in the tie.

Welcoming Mark Hughes side to Vicarage Road for the game, Darren Fletcher gave them the lead in the 16th minute and that was where the scoring on the day ended.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media following the game, Silva wasn't best pleased at all with the first half performance.

'I think we didn't play well in the first-half. We gave our opponents the advantage for 45 minutes, we gave them a big lift in the goal we conceded. We made a mistake, we gave them a gift. We lost our focus in that moment and they scored a good goal. Everything was too slow and we knew they would come here with 10 men behind the ball and wait for our mistake. We needed to play faster and with more intensity.'

With significant improvement in the second period, Silva was however pleased with that reaction but he knew it had come too late.

'The second-half was different. It was more the image of our team. We had more intensity in our game but it was really difficult as they put nine, 10 men behind the ball and sometimes in the box.'

He added.

'We had two or three chances to score, but if we score the first goal everything is different. I believe if we played in the first-half how we did in the second-half, then the result would have been different.'

Watford are now waiting to hear on whether or not Troy Deeney will be charged following his clash with Joe Allen near the end of the game. Both players were booked for a red mist induced set of hangbags but it all depends on what match day referee Michael Oliver says about what he saw in his report.
