Gomes - City One Of The Best I've Faced
Goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes has said that Manchester City are simply one of the best sides he's ever faced following Watford's loss at the weekend.
Hosting the side at Vicarage Road for the game, Watford were hammered six nil on the day and even though he knew we should've acquitted ourselves better on the day, and that we could certainly perform better, like head coach Marco Silva he knew they more than warranted their victory on the day.
Speaking to Sky Sports as he spoke to the Goals on Sunday show, Gomes was keen for Watford to learn some lessons from the match but he also knew that in many ways with how good they are, we can chalk some of the disappointment off and put it down to a bad day as when City play like that, they will demolish anyone more often than not.
'We need to learn from our mistakes. We need to learn the way to play against them for next time. But we said after the game we cannot be too down, we need to as soon as possible get over it. Next week will be another tough game away from home and we're doing well away from home; we know that if we keep that loss on our mind it can be difficult to play the next game.'
Gomes went on to say about the after effects of the game.
'We, the players and staff, need to take that from inside us. We need to keep going; we know where we can go and where we can fight for. We need to understand that sometimes it's difficult as well. We need to keep pushing and we believe that we have a very good side.'
With six goals to choose from and Silva talking about ones that shouldn't have stood, the stopper also felt the timing of their opener had been key as it did come after we'd (Richarlison) missed a good chance at the other end.
'In the counter-attack we need to be more clinical; we had a great chance with Richarlison before they scored as well and we didn't score. When you don't score against City, you'll get punished. It didn't help us as well because that time was a period that maybe if we carried on at 0-0. The only way to keep them out is to be focused and sometimes we lost our focus a bit. We made it easy for them, you know. They are one of the best teams I've faced in the Premier League.'
