Silva Not Too Disappointed At AFC Wimbledon Loss

Marco Silva made a losing start at Watford following a defeat at League One side AFC Wimbledon.

The Hornets battled back from two down but lost 3-2 to a late Dons winner.

Cody McDonald struck twice in four minutes at the start of the second half to open up a two goal lead for Wimbledon but Ben Watson an Steven Berghuis, who spent last season on loan at Feyenoord, looked to have secured Watford a draw.

However, a last minute goal from Alfie Egan saw the hosts to victory at Kingsmeadow.

Watford: Gomes (GK) (c) (Bachmann, 61); Janmaat (Dja Djédjé, HT), Prödl, Britos (Kabasele, HT), Holebas; Watson, Doucouré; Berghuis (Gordon, 90), Capoue (Folivi, 85), Success (Amrabat, HT); Okaka.
Sub not used: Rowan.

Wimbledon: Long (GK), Fuller (c), Kennedy, Robinson, Oshilaja, Esseboom, Maloney, Francomb, Taylor, McDonald, Barcham.
Subs: McDonnell (GK), Sibbick, Nightingale, Kalambayi, Owens, Parrett, Egan, Hartigan, Kaja, Appiah, Antwi.

Attendance: 2,101 (624 Watford)

It goes without saying defeat wasn't the way Silva wanted to begin his spell at Watford but he told the Official Website you have to view the friendly for what it is and the boss has focused on the aspects he would have gained in defeat.

'Of course we expect a different result. For me, in a friendly match always it is important to win, but the most important of course is not the result but to start to see our model, to start to analyse our players because we need to take decisions as well.'

Adding: 'Now is the moment to start to input more our model, our main principles in our squad, to pass more time in our tactical work and to start to see better things in the match.'
