Watford Confirm Mazzarri Will Leave

The rumours have now become fact as Watford have confirmed Walter Mazzarri will leave the club following the final game of the season at home to Manchester City on Sunday.

A brief statement was issued by chairman Scott Duxbury confirming Mazzarri's exit having discussed 'future goals and aspirations' with the outgoing Watford boss.

The statement read: 'After the Board discussed with Walter Mazzarri the club`s future goals and aspirations, it was decided he will be stepping down from his position as the club`s Head Coach after the final game of the 2016/17 season. We thank Walter and his staff for the contribution they have made to Watford Football Club over the past year.'

Managerial changes aren't uncommon at Watford as the next one will become the ninth boss at Vicarage Road in five years - his appointment, on a contract from 1st July when Quique Sanchez Flores' own deal was to end, was announced last May.

The soon-to-be exit of Mazzarri, 55, probably isn't going to be an unpopular one as Watford haven't progressed under the former Inter Milan and Napoli boss, had the season continued for a few more games the Hornets might not have avoided relegation.

Yes, Premier League survival has been secured but speculation of player discontent at Vicarage Road could have led to a mass exit if Mazzarri didn't go, according to reports.

Continuity at Watford is a must going forward as the consistent hiring and firing, very much the Pozzo's way, will ultimately result in relegation, just look at Sunderland... The next appointment needs to be a sound appointment.
