Tottenham Were Too Good - Mazzarri

Head coach Walter Mazzarri has held his hands up at the quality of Tottenham Hotspur following Watford's defeat at the weekend.

Heading to White Hart Lane for the game against Mauricio Pochettino's in form side, Mazzarri was happy enough with our start to the game but ultimately as the game grew on we found them more and more difficult to cope with, and once they took the lead just after the half hour mark, they were worthy of their four nil victory by half time.

Speaking to Sky Sports in his post game press conference, Mazzarri knew they were 'phenomenal' on the day and just too good for us.

'We were unfortunate in the first half, being 3-0 down. Then the second half was very difficult. We started well, playing on the same level, but they had three great shots from three champion players. The third goal cut our legs completely. The first 30 minutes we played very well and were just missing the last pass. They are phenomenal, great players with good technique and in good physical condition. This year we could have done better but we are having a very good season. I don't want to say excellent, but a good one.'

Mazzarri actually spoke earlier in the week in English to the media for the first time following his arrival, and post game he added without his translator.

'Tottenham have top players on the pitch, and top players on the bench.'

With victories ahead of this tie being all important, Watford do sit in tenth place in the Premier League table now and whilst some will say we're heading towards a disappointing conclusion the fact is with all the changes over the summer, it is about securing Premier League football again and hopefully next season we can look to really push on with greater consistency.
