Cathcart Focused On 40 Points

Cathcart Focused On 40 Points

Craig Cathcart has warned Watford against having any complacency as we head towards the end of the 2016/17 Premier League campaign.

With defeat to Crystal Palace at the weekend at Selhurst Park, Watford remain on 31 points in 14th place in the table with Hull City sat on 24 points in 18th place, and Cathcart was adamant the players had to focus on getting to 40 points as a minimum in the remaining games that are left.

Speaking to the Watford Observer as he met with the media following the game, Cathcart explained.

'You can`t afford to be complacent. The league has been a bit strange this year, so we know any team can cause an upset. We can`t afford to drop too many points and we need to pick up and get a few wins on the board. We have to take each game as it comes, we have 31 points and want to get to that 40-point mark as soon as possible. The next few games will be massive for us.'

With Sunderland next up when the international break is over, Cathcart knew that three points simply had to be the aim in that one so we didn't further lose that gap to the relegation zone - especially with sides below us starting to rack up wins themselves.

'It is disappointing not to come away with something. I think Palace were up for the game, as we were, and I think a draw would have been a fair reflection. It was a difficult goal to concede. We need to pick ourselves up now and move on.'

Adding that with an injury hit season himself, he's just hoping to play as many games as he can now and help to ensure survival as quick as possible so we can move up the league table.

'It has been a frustrating year for me injury wise and any time I play I try to help the team as best I can. I am feeling better with every game I am playing and hopefully that will be me injury free now for the rest of the season and I can help the team move up the table. It is a challenge and is something that I am not used to. The more I play it, I am sure I will get more accustomed to it.'
