Coton's Watford Relegation Worries

Coton's Watford Relegation Worries

Watford legend Tony Coton has admitted he's 'a little bit worried' the Hornets could get dragged into the relegation battle.

Heading into the weekend before the international break Watford are seven points clear of the bottom three with a game in hand, which isn't a bad place to be in. Unfortunately the 'advantage' of an extra game is against Premier League winners elect Chelsea!

Coton knows there aren't any easy games but is also aware thing would look better with a win at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace. On the flip side they'll look worse should the Hornets suffer defeat.

Speaking to the Hertfordshire Mercury Coton said.

'I'm a little bit worried actually. I am worried. I think they are a point above real trouble at the moment. It's a big game on Saturday at Crystal Palace, as they all are. There's no easy games so you can't pick out the fixtures and say 'we expect three points there', or 'we'll get a draw here', it doesn't happen anymore. I'm a bit worried.'

He can't speak from first hand knowledge of watching Watford that much this season - due to his role with Aston Villa as head of goalkeeping recruitment - but Coton has enough friends that do and they've told him things aren't 'going well' at this time.

But he still feels there's 'enough quality' at Vicarage Road to ensure Watford aren't going to be one of those that fill a relegation slot.

Coton added.

'I think there are two teams that are already down, and I think that third slot could be any of five or six teams. I just pray that it's not Watford. I pray for it. I speak to friends who are season ticket holders and they say it's not going well at the moment, but I think there's enough quality there to escape.'
