Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd today signed a four and a half year contract that will keep at Vicarage Road until 2010.
With Watford lying third in the Coca-Cola Championship and Boothroyd being linked to the managerial vacancy at Southampton, the board of directors have been quick to act and offer the Hornets' boss a new contract.
Chairman Graham Simpson, who was subject of much criticism when replacing Ray Lewington with Boothroyd, said on the club's official website 'In a short space of time, he has taken this club by the scruff of the neck and given us new purpose, vigour and far greater self belief. As a result, Adrian has become highly respected by everyone associated with Watford and the wider footballing public - particularly our fans.'
Boothroyd acknowledged the gamble that Simpson took by appointing a thirty-four year-old with no previous managerial experience. 'I have done my very best to repay the faith shown in me by Graham and the Watford Board. I am conscious, however, that we have won nothing yet. But I am confident that success will be achieved.', the popular boss told Watfordfc.com.
The deal replaces the one-year rolling contract that the former Norwich and Leeds coach signed when stepping into the Vicarage Road hotseat in April.
