Belkalem Signs On & Makes Algeria World Cup Squad

Watford's hulking centre back Essa´d Belkalem has made his stay at Vicarage Road permanent, amid news of his inclusion in Algeria's World Cup squad.

The Watford Observer has had it confirmed by the club that the 25-year-old has been offered a permanent deal with Watford FC.

Belkalem was loaned from Granada CF for his one-year stay last season, despite having never played for the Spanish outfit after signing from Algerian side JS Kabylie.

Belkalem's move to Vicarage Road last summer came through Granada, but it was always intended for the Hornets to have the option of signing the 6 foot 3 defender should they wish.

Despite only making a total of seven starts and three appearances from the bench last season, Belkalem has done enough in the eyes of the management to be afforded a permanent contract here in Hertfordshire.

Following on from this announcement is the news that Belkalem has been selected in Algeria's 23-man squad for this year's World Cup in Brazil.

Belkalem recently scored in a warm up game in Switzerland against Armenia, as the North African team prepare to take on Belgium, Russia and South Korea in their group at the World Cup Finals in just over a week.

A video of Belkalem's close range finish to open the scoring against Armenia can be viewed here.
