Team News: Abdi situation remains unclear

Team News: Abdi situation remains unclear

Watford will be without Almen Abdi for Saturday's trip to Leicester City, but the longer-term condition of the midfielder remains unclear.

The Swiss midfielder was withdrawn at Nottingham Forest 10 days ago with a reoccurrence of the foot problem which has plagued his campaign to date.

However, whether or not Watford's reigning Player of the Season will kick a ball again this season remains unclear, for now.

Speaking to The Watford Observer, head of medical Marco Cesarini said: 'We are still assessing him and we will say something next week.'

The medical team have stressed the importance of not rushing Abdi back into first team action as he recovers with Plantar Fasciitis, but the playmaker has slowly been working his way back with four substitute appearances since mid-January.

Fellow midfielder Lewis McGugan is also sidelined, whilst on-loan defender Essaid Belkalem is also out.

Cesarini also revealed that 'a few' were struggling with knocks which were due to be assessed on Friday.

Leicester City have three confirmed absentees too, with Liam Moore (broken rib), Sean St. Ledger (groin) and Tom Hopper (shin) all unavailable to Nigel Pearson.

New Zealand international Chris Wood played 60 minutes for the club's development side on Monday, along with new signing Riyad Mahrez and Jeffrey Schlupp.
