Gianfranco Zola says he is 'trying everything' to turn around Watford's disastrous run which was extended to nine games without a win against Sheffield Wednesday.
The Hornets fell to a superb free-kick from Connor Wickham which was virtually Sheffield Wednesday's first attempt on goal during the first period.
Watford were undoubtedly the better of the two sides in the opening 45 minutes and saw an Ikechi Anya goal ruled out for offside before Sean Murray and Anya tested Owls 'keeper Damian Martinez.
Speaking to The Watford Observer after fifth straight home defeat, Zola said: "We are trying everything; training differently and trying to do different things and it is not working.'
The Sardinian continued: "In front of the goalkeeper we are not as confident as we were some time ago.
'To be honest it is becoming very difficult to get people in front of the goalkeeper because of the way the opposition plays with lots of men at the back and we do not create enough opportunities.'
Asked to identify the problem, Zola was left stumped.
"What is the real problem? I certainly don`t know. We are not going through a good moment in terms of confidence.
'We produce chances but it is difficult for us to score and when the opposition have one chance - like they did today and many times in the past - they score.
That certainly doesn`t help the confidence of the players and that is what is creating a lot of pressure with the players and everyone.'
Owls caretaker Stuart Gray told the club's official website that Wednesday had been good value for the win.
"I hope no one up and down the country looks at that as a smash and grab because it wasn`t, I thought we were good value for the win,' said Gray.
"People say they do it for the manager but first and foremost they do it for themselves and their families.
"They have to be able to look at themselves and say they gave everything and they certainly did that today."
