Chris Powell back in England fold

Watford defender Chris Powell returned to the international fold this week and spent Monday training with the England squad.

'I was very kindly invited by Bill Beswick to spend the day with the England team this week,' the 37-year-old told the club`s official site.

'Bill is an old mentor of mine going back to my Derby days and he's now part of Steve McClaren's set up with the England team.

'They have worked together for a number of years so I was invited along to spend the day with them on Monday.

'They let me sit in on a lot of meetings - not all because some are private - but I was able to pick their brains as part of my own learning curve.

'I'm due to do my 'A' coaching badge in the summer so it was a great privilege to be there. I know a number of players from having played with or against them at club or international level so it was great.

'I know the team that's going to be playing against Croatia tomorrow night but I'm not telling anyone!

'Once I started to watch the training, I thought the quality was fantastic. Everything was on the button, as you would expect.

'Back at the hotel, the atmosphere was quite subdued after the Macedonia game. I'm sure they will do us proud on Wednesday night,' concluded Powell.

Powell won 5 caps and was selected by Sven Goran Eriksson in his first-ever England squad.

I thought you meant playing at first! Is he becoming a coach at England or just getting experience?
