'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Preview: Peterborough United vs. Watford

Watford continue their pre-season preparations on Wednesday night with Gianfranco Zola taking his side to London Road to take on Peterborough United.

The trip to face the Posh is the penultimate warm-up match of the Golden Boys` pre-season programme and will provide a tougher test once more, with United only dropping into League One on the final day of last season.

Head Coach Zola will be without several first-team squad members as Manuel Almunia and Joel Ekstrand (both ankle) definitely missing out, whilst Sean Murray - who has impressed during pre-season - is a doubt with a tight groin.

The defensive trio of Tommie Hoban, Nyron Nosworthy and Jaime Romero are all still sidelined too.

Zola had confirmed to The Watford Observer that the majority of his players will not play more than 70 minutes as the Hornets continue to build up match fitness ahead of the big kick-off on August 3.

It`s been a relatively quiet off-season for Posh boss Darren Ferguson, who has only recruited Gillingham midfielder Jack Payne on a permanent basis following his loan spell.

Indeed, the Posh`s outgoings have been more noteworthy than their incomings with Dwight Gayle departing for the Premier League in a deal which could ultimately be worth some 8m to the Posh.

'The White Pele` or George Boyd as he`s better known, has departed for Hull City on a free transfer, whilst energetic full-back Mark Little was released at the end of last campaign.

Kick-off: 7:30pm

Tickets: On the door, 10.

Radio: Hornets Player.
