'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Two in & three out, Zola shakes up backroom staff

Head Coach Gianfranco Zola has announced several personnel changes to his backroom staff ahead of start of the new Football League Championship season.

Fitness Coach Ade Mafe, Assistant Head Coach Giancarlo Corradini and Head of Rehabilitation Giorgio Gasperini have all left Vicarage Road, the club have confirmed.

Incoming are new Assistant Head Coach Bastiano Porcu, and Head of Sports Science, Giovanni Brignardello.

Speaking to the official site, Zola said of the appointments:

"Gianni`s credentials come before him. He has always worked with good teams and he`s doing a good job so far. In the first few days he has confirmed all the good things that have been told to us."

"I look forward to working with Bastiano in the future and know he`ll add quality to our staff at Watford," continued Zola.

A Google search reveals little about Porcu, but Brignardello arrives with no little pedigree, having served as the fitness coach of the Italian national polo team for seven years as well as being on the staff of Chievo Verona, Parma and Sampdoria.

Welcome to Watford, Giovanni and Bastiano.
