WFC announce stadium redevelopment

Watford have today unveiled plans for a £32.5million redevelopment of the Vicarage Road Stadium.

The scheme will see a brand new East Stand to replace half-derelict monstrosity that has been condemned by Health and Safety officials, and improved kiosk facilities in the Rous and Rookery stands.

The changing rooms, media facilities and the players lounge will be relocated from the East stand and moved to the southwest corner of the ground, where the executive boxes that look like Benidorm holiday homes are currently situated. The directors boxes and the boardroom will be moved to the Upper Rous, where a new sports bar will also be situated.

However, as part of the Watford Health Campus project, the redevelopment of Vicarage Road will see homes for key-workers from the neighboring Watford General Hospital will be built around the edge of the Rookery stand and part of the Rous stand.

Origin will provide £19million for the development, Watford will contribute 13.5m with £3m ring-fenced from the club`s revenues over the next three seasons. The remaining £6.5m will be financed through a combination of sensible (the club`s words) and/or equity.

Subject to planning approval, the redevelopment will take place in the 2007 close season and last for approximately three years.
